Organ Donation Week 2019

It is Organ Donation Week 2019 (2nd-8th September), which aims to raise awareness of the importance of talking to loved ones about organ donation to help save lives.

Organ Donation Week (2nd-8th September 2019) aims to raise awareness of the importance of talking to loved ones about organ donation to help save lives.

Over 6,000 people in the UK are currently waiting for transplant and around three people die every day waiting for a transplant.

The current system in the England relies on people informing their family and loved ones of their support of organ donation or by registering on the NHS Organ Donor Register. However, in Spring 2020 the law will change to an ‘opt out’ system (the exact date of when the new system will be implemented has not yet been confirmed by Government).

NHS England have outlined the new law as follows: ‘From Spring 2020 all adults in England will be considered to have agreed to be an organ and tissue donor when they die unless they recorded a decision not to donate or are in one of the excluded groups.’
